Firefighters have rescued a fisherman who was stuck waist-deep in mud for four-and-a-half hours.

A total of 26 crew helped free the 73-year-old after he sank into mud at the side of Loch Eigheach, Perthshire.

The pensioner got into difficulty while fishing with friends in the area between Rannoch Lodge and Rannoch power station, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said.

Fire crews and specialist rescue teams from Perth and Dundee rescued the pensioner.

A spokeswoman for the service said: "Paramedics assessed his condition and he has gone home."
