Fire crews use sledgehammer to rescue OAP after she falls through rotten floor

An elderly woman has been taken to hospital after falling four feet through a rotten floor at her home, according to the ambulance service.

The woman was injured after falling into a basement on Dalkeith Road in Dundee at 6.20pm.

Firefighters used a sledgehammer to remove a broken slab so that they could reach the woman, said a spokeswoman for the fire service.

First aid was administered by the paramedic before three firefighters helped place her on a stretcher and she was lifted free from the basement.A spokeswoman for the fire service said: "The elderly woman had fallen through a rotten floor at her front door. A paramedic on site administered first aid."Firefighters removed a broken slab using a sledgehammer and a salvage sheet before assisting the paramedic."Three firefighters and one paramedic were in the basement with the woman and she was lifted to the ground floor on a scoop stretcher."The ambulance service were called to the scene by police who said a woman had been found behind a door after falling four foot through part of a floor.She was taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
