Fire horror 'could not be predicted'

THE deaths of six children in a house-fire started by their parents "could not have been predicted or prevented", a serious case review has found.

The report by the Derby Safeguarding Children Board after the death of the Philpott children found that professionals who contacted the family could not have foreseen the fire,

Mick Philpott was jailed for life and his wife Mairead Philpott got 17 years last April after being found guilty of the manslaughter of the six in Derby. The house-fire was set in an effort to frame his former mistress.

The report added thatgiven the notoriety of the father, incidents of domestic abuse and the visibility of the children, there had been some opportunities to get to know the family better.
