Firefighters have tackled a blaze that broke out at a stately home overlooking a safari park.

Crews were called to the fire at the property close to Blair Drummond Safari Park near Stirling at 11.32am today.

They were met by a "rapidly developing fire" in the roof space of a two-storey detached house.

No one was in the house by the time crews arrived, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said.

Group Manager Martin Brandrick said: "Initially crews fought to bring the fire under control from inside and outside the house. They worked hard and managed to contain the fire to the roof and top floor.

"Work to bring the blaze under control continued for over two hours and at the height of operations there were six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus sets and three hose reel jets used to fight the fire.

"An SFRS fire investigation team from Livingston will conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire and crews will remain on scene for some considerable time dampening down and checking for hot spots."
