A FIRM once dubbed Scotland's worst polluter has escaped a liquidation bid.

Doonin Plant Limited was issued with a winding-up petition at Glasgow Sheriff Court, according to a formal notice. However, it has been withdrawn after the firm, which in 2012 was given a £200,000 for illegally "storing" thousands of tonnes of rubbish in an abandoned colliery, settled a debt to property management firm Speirs Gumley.

Doonin Plant's directors were last month barred from running trucks by the Traffic Commissioner. The firm was unavailable for comment.
