First woman to be Lord Lieutenant

RETIRED vet Jeanna Swan, 60, has been appointed the first female Lord Lieutenant for Berwickshire in the 220-year history of the role.

The Prime Minister's office at 10 Downing Street confirmed her as the Queen's representative. She is following in the footsteps of her father-in-law who was the Lord Lieutenant of Berwickshire from 1989 to 2000.
