Five people have died in a head-on road crash in Grimsby, north-east Lincolnshire.

Superintendent Tracey Bradley, of Humberside Police, said: "Police were called today at 12.30pm to an incident on the A18 near Laceby, just past the Oaklands Hotel.

"What we know so far is that a collision has occurred between a Nissan Primera and a light goods vehicle.

"There were five occupants in the Nissan Primera, and two of the occupants were taken to the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital where they were declared deceased. There were three other occupants of the vehicle who were certified deceased at the scene."

The victims of yesterday's crash were believed to have been from Durham.
