The two-storey house in Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire, was left with only a few shards of glass in some windows, and broken tiles were scattered outside.
The fire brigade, police and ambulance services all attended to the scene, in the town's Main Street, on Wednesday. Officers sealed off the street and diverted traffic as fire crews worked to make the property safe.
Downstairs neighbour Wendy Morrison said: "I was in the kitchen when I heard about three or four huge bangs. The whole place was shaking. I'm still shaking now."
The man, who was described as "walking wounded", was taken to Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley as a precaution.
It is not yet known what caused the airbed to explode, and fire investigation teams and building control officials were at the site yesterday.
