Food firms globalisation linked to human to animal disease spread

The increased globalisation of the food production industry is contributing to the spread of disease from humans to animals, researchers said today.

Scientists at the University of Edinburgh said they have discovered that a strain of bacteria jumped from people to chickens around 40 years ago and that it has since been promoted because the companies dominating the industry have fewer breeding lines.
