St Mirren midfielder Paul McGowan has pleaded guilty to assaulting two police offers earlier this year.

The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to the attacks in Airdrie and at Coatbridge police office on August 11 when he appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court.

The former Celtic player - who lives in Airdrie - admitted kicking Police Constable Edward Gilmartin on the body and repeatedly kicking Sergeant Tony Fitzpatrick on the body.

Charges alleging McGowan kicked Special Constable Martine McNee on the body and acted in a threatening and abusing manner likely to cause fear and alarm were dropped after he pleaded not guilty.

Sheriff Petra Collins deferred sentence on McGowan until January 8 for reports, while his bail was continued.
