Frankenstein's Monster has been named the top classic horror movie creature in time for Hallowe'en.

In a poll by SFX magazine, the creation – popularly portrayed with scars, a flat head and a bolt through his neck – drew almost one-third of the votes, leaving Dracula in second spot.

Fans were given a choice of vintage monsters that feature in a new Blu-ray collection of horror classics, entitled Universal Monsters: The Essential Collection.

British actor Boris Karloff's interpretation of the re-animated creature from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein was first seen on screen in 1931.

Behind blood-sucking Dracula, was the third-placed Creature From The Black Lagoon from the 1954 movie of that name.

The list is completed by The Wolf Man, The Bride Of Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, The Mummy and the The Phantom Of The Opera.
