Fraudster ordered to return £80,000

A man who defrauded two local authorities of more than £370,000 by posing as a building contractor has had a portion of his criminal earnings seized by the state.

Mangal Singh Dhami, 50, was sentenced to three years in prison in 2010 after his scam was uncovered.

A court heard Dhami, from Wolverhampton, wrote letters to South Lanarkshire Council and North Ayrshire Council pertaining to be from a contractor used by the local authorities, with the documents claiming the bank account details had changed.
