A fresh appeal has been made to trace a man in connection with the rape of a woman last Hogmanay.

A year on from the sex attack, police in Aberdeenshire have renewed their appeal for the man who was captured on CCTV.

The 33-year-old victim was raped in a layby on the A90 in the early hours of Tuesday, January 1, 2013.

She was collected in a silver or grey five-door hatchback car around Allardice Street in Stonehaven after the Fireballs Hogmanay event and was sexually assaulted between 1am and 3am on the A90 between Stonehaven and Portlethen.

The man the victim left with is aged in his fifties and was wearing a red hat and a long, dark-coloured waterproof coat at the time

Detective Inspector Graeme Mackie said: "An image of a man who police were keen to speak to was previously released and we would again appeal for this person or any witnesses to come forward.

"Anyone who recognises the male in the footage is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous."
