POLICE believe a fugitive thought to be on the run in Tayside may have travelled to London.

Lee Cyrus, 47, from Preston, Lancashire, was serving life for robbery when he failed to return to North Sea Camp jail near Boston, in Lincolnshire, while on day release on October 9.

A manhunt was launched for Cyrus, pictured, who is also known as Ivan Leach, in woods on the outskirts of Perth after a possible sighting, with police wanting to question him in connection with the rape of a young woman on October 15 in the city and the robbery of another the previous day.

Police also refused to rule him out of an investigation into another rape in Aberdeen on October 29.

However, it has now emerged police believe he caught a coach in Nottingham to London on October 20, with CCTV pictures of him using a cashpoint released. Officers from Lancashire have now travelled to London to investigate his whereabouts.

Detective Superintendant Paul Withers said: "We are continuing to liaise with a number of other forces across England and Scotland and have a huge number of resources dedicated to tracking him down but we also need the public's help. I would like to warn anyone who may be harbouring him that if they know where he is, and they fail to notify police, action will be taken against them."
