IT is known for its good schools and easy commuting time to Scotland's biggest city.

Now G78 - the code for Neilston in East Renfrewshire - has been revealed as the country's most desirable place to live.

East Renfrewshire and East Dunbartonshire, each bordering Glasgow, dominated the postcode top ten, which considered proximity to good schools and green spaces as well as average commuting times.

Torrance, Lenzie, Milngavie, Eaglesham, Bearsden and Giffnock all made the top 10. Three areas of Edinburgh - EH5, EH7 and EH11 - also featured.

The study by the Centre for Economic and Business Research also looked at employment prospects and affordable housing.

Craigavon in County Armagh came top in Northern Ireland while Bebington in the Wirral, close to the River Mersey, led the poll for England.
