THE first Rotary Club in Scotland – which counts entertainer Sir Harry Lauder among its former members – celebrates its centenary today.

The Rotary Club of Glasgow will host a gala lunch at the city's Grand Central Hotel to mark the occasion and welcome hundreds of Rotary members from the UK and abroad.

Rotary International president Kalyan Banerjee is flying in from Barbados for the celebration. His speech will congratulate the club on its contribution to the community.

It has raised £35,000 for charity for the centenary.

Member Ian Bruce, 76, said: "People are coming from all over Scotland and England. We're expecting 250 to 300 people to attend."
