A man has suffered face and head injuries after an unprovoked attack by a group of men and women as he walked home.

The 36-year-old victim was seriously assaulted in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire, on Friday evening at around 10.50pm after he was struck by an object thrown by a man.

When he turned to confront him, he was attacked by the group, believed to be three men and two women. He was taken by ambulance to Hairmyres Hospital. Yesterday his condition was described as stable.

Meanwhile, Strathclyde Police yesterday revealed officers had seized drugs worth £250,000 from a house in Airdrie on Friday morning. A 49-year-old man and 36-year-old woman were arrested and detained in custody.
