HISTORIC statues in one of Scotland's grandest places are to be removed under plans to transform a city's civic heart.

An international design competition has been launched as part of a £15 million project to transform George Square in Glasgow for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. As part of this, the statues will be removed "at least on a temporary basis". However, a report says the statues, including the one of Sir Walter Scott, may not return to the square, but go elsewhere in the city.
