Harald Hoffmann, 46, collapsed in the Loch Assynt area of Lochinver, Sutherland, at about 2.30pm on Friday afternoon.
He was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness by Stornoway Coastguard helicopter and was found to be dead on arrival.

Mr Hoffmann, from Marburg, was part of a group of four who were deer stalking on the 44,500-acre Canisp and Drumrunie estate owned by the Assynt Foundation.
He was with another German and two deer stalkers employed by the Assynt Foundation.
Mr Marburg leaves a wife, a 23-year-old daughter and a 21-year-old son.
