Girl swept to sea has brain injury

A SCHOOLGIRL who was swept into the sea while trying to rescue her best friend has been left brain damaged.

Katie-Lou MacLean, 14, tried to pull Tempany Sylvester, 13, to safety when 20ft waves swept her off steps at the harbour wall at Eyemouth, Berwick-shire, in June, leaving her critically ill.

Her friend was unhurt but Katie-Lou stopped breathing and had no heartbeat for a time.
