TRAVELLERS on Emirates' Glasgow to Dubai route consume more on-board alcohol than any of the airline's other routes.

Consumption on the popular double daily service between Glasgow airport and the Gulf state - where residents require a licence to buy alcohol - outstripped any of the carrier's other flightpaths, according to Denise Holmes, Emirates' district sales manager for Scotland and the North East.

Ms Holmes said: "When we looked at the statistics, Glasgow had the highest alcohol consumption on flights of any other route."

She added that the airline, which celebrated its 10th anniversary at Glasgow airport in April, said it had "big plans" and did not rule out eventually opening a base at Edinburgh, Scotland's busiest airport.
