Glasgow auditions for a part in the new Star Wars film have been postponed as producers battle to find a larger venue for the event.
Casting directors had to turn people away during their first audition in Bristol last weekend after being overwhelmed by the response to their open casting call. It is understood that around 5,000 people turned up over two days.
The Glasgow auditions, which were due to take place at South Block, Wasp Studios, 60-64 Osborne Street on Saturday, November 16 and Sunday, November 17, will now take place on Saturday, November 30 and Sunday, December 1. The venue for the auditions will be announced later this month.
Producers want to find two young actors to fill lead roles in Star Wars: Episode 7. Film-makers are looking for a young, beautiful, smart, athletic woman to play a 'street smart and strong' orphaned teenage girl in the movie. They are also searching for a handsome, smart, athletic youngster to fill the role of a 'smart, capable and courageous' man in his late teens or early 20s.
The sci-fi flick will be directed and co-scripted by JJ Abrams, best known for his work on Lost and the last two Star Trek movies. It is due to begin shooting at Pinewood Studios in Spring 2014 and is scheduled for a 2015 release.
It is rumoured that the film will star Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, who appeared in the original trilogy.
A statement posted on @UKopencall, which announced the auditions, said: "The open casting call scheduled for this weekend, November 16 and November 17 in Glasgow has been rearranged for the weekend of November 30 - December 1. Due to the overwhelming response at recent sessions the casting team is in the process of searching for a larger venue that can best accommodate projected attendance numbers. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience.
"We thank you for your patience and we appreciate your enthusiasm during this exciting time... and to the hopefuls, May the Force be with you!"
Those who are unable to attend the open casting can also submit their audition video online.
A statement on @UKopencall said: "If you are not able to attend the meet and greet and fit one of the character descriptions, please visit www.opencasting2013.com."
The casting call will visit cities across the UK, including Manchester, London and Dublin.
Those attending must be over the age of 16 for the female role and 18 for the male part.
Online audition tapes must be submitted by Tuesday. December 3.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
