SINGER Eilidh Munro lit up the stage at Scotland's National Gaelic Mòd when she won the coveted Gold Medal final.

The 20-year-old, from Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, beat eight other performers yesterday to the top award at the annual event, held in Paisley.

It is the first time the leading cultural event has been held in the Renfrewshire town in its 121-year history. It has attracted thousands of visitors to the town and about 3000 competitors have been taking part.

Paisley was chosen for its significant Gaelic heritage. The Royal National Mòd is organised by An Comunn Gàidhealach, the world's oldest Gaelic organisation.
