Golfers watch out for the birdies

BIRDIES are taking on a whole new meaning for golfers in South Lanarkshire.

A family of crows is ruffling players' feathers by stealing their balls from the fairway and stashing them in the rough.

Bothwell Castle Golf Club member David Robertson, 68, said: "My wife had three balls stolen at one hole. And I've had four taken in the course of a game. Sometimes the crows pick the ball up, look at you straight in the eye, then put it down again. Then, if you chase them, they pick it up and fly away with it. A few players have thrown their clubs at them. But they just think it's part of the fun."
