Grandparents' joy as town celebrates local boy becoming legend

THE proud grandmother of Andy Murray has spoken of the incredible challenge in helping to develop a tennis superstar – but Shirley Erskine declared it has all been worth it.

"There were a lot of sacrifices made for Andy," Mrs Erskine revealed at her home in Dunblane. "Judith spent a long time driving Andy and Jamie round the country. And there were a really difficult couple of years before funding kicked in. And that meant the family had to help. The appeal went out to everyone, to uncles, to cousins, and thankfully they all chipped in. And today we can see the result."
