The mother of a Scottish woman who died in mysterious circumstances in Dubai said she has given up searching for the truth about her daughter's death.

Evelyn Clarke, 28, died after falling from the eighth floor of a Dubai tower block in April last year.

Maryann Clarke and her husband Eddie, from Irvine, believe their daughter, an air hostess, was murdered.

They dispute an official report in Dubai that gave the cause of death of Ms Clarke, who worked for the airline Emirates, as suicide.

Mrs Clarke said: "I don't think Evelyn would want me to stop living my life to carry on doing this.

"Eddie isn't happy, but I keep telling him there is nowhere to turn.

"I'm just not powerful enough to take on Dubai."

Mrs Clarke said she was initially told that her daughter's death would be recorded as an accidental death.

However it has been logged in Dubai as a suicide, she said.

"If it hadn't been for my lawyer I would never have known this," she said. "I was gobsmacked. I've been lied to continually from day one."

Ms Clarke's body was found on April 7 last year outside an apartment complex miles from where she lived in the city.

There were reports of the Scot running into the apartment block the night she died, screaming that someone was trying to kill her.

The Scottish Fatalities Unit, part of the Crown Office, has offered the services of a forensic pathologist should a court grant the couple permission to exhume the body.

Mrs Clarke said: "Even if we were to receive permission for an exhumation, where can I go with it?"
