Growing numbers of toddlers face obesity

THE number of overweight toddlers and very young children is on the rise with more than 30% of two to six-year-olds too large.

The 2011 Scottish Health Survey results show obesity is up to 13.8% from 11.3% in 1998 as research warned suffering the problem as a child may take an even heavier toll on health in adulthood than previously thought. The survey showed there had been no significant changes in the number of adults or children eating five fruit and vegetables a day, nor have levels of physical activity increased.
