One of Glasgow's most popular film venues has announced plans to create a new 60-seat cinema in its historic Rose Street building.

Glasgow City Council has agreed to give a £500,000 grant towards a £1.6 million project to expand Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT).

The revamp will also improve disabled access and renovation of the foyer and cafe areas.

GFT was established on the site of The Cosmo in 1974 and Rose Street has been an operating cinema since 1939.

Some £100,000 towards the creation of the new cinema space has also been awarded from Creative Scotland.
