A GUNMAN who shot and killed an equestrian centre owner before turning the gun on himself died from a wound to his chest, it has emerged.

Robert McCormick, 53, shot Peter Thompson, 59, in the head with a shotgun and wounded his son John, 36.

The shooting unfolded at the Thompsons' equestrian centre at Meadowhead Farm near East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, on August 6.

McCormick, of Clarkston, East Renfrewshire, killed Peter Thompson before returning to his car and shooting himself dead. It is believed Mr Thompson had borrowed money from McCormick but had failed to pay him back.

Peter Thompson's funeral is due to be held today. Police are investigating the deaths.
