Healthcare IT apps will save NHS cash

COMPUTER experts are creating a virtual shopping centre for hospitals and GP surgeries which they say could save the NHS millions of pounds.

The healthcare app store, which would allow staff to download online-booking systems, create video libraries for physiotherapy patients and carry out check-ups online, is being developed at Edinburgh Napier University.

The project, which is part of a wider €300 million (£261m) European Commission initiative, is being led by Professor Christoph Thuemmler, Director of the Centre for Digital Health, who is confident it could help dramatically cut the NHS's IT bill.
