SCOTS DJ Calvin Harris has pulled out of the MTV European Music Awards at the last minute after suffering a heart scare, writes Judith Duffy.

Organisers said Harris, below, would no longer be performing at the show at Glasgow's SSE Hydro tonight as he had taken ill.

The 30-year-old DJ, who was born in Dumfries, posted on Twitter: "No EMAs for me this weekend. Got some heart problems. Heading home to see if it can be fixed x."

A message on the MTV EMA Facebook page said: "Calvin Harris has taken ill and will not be able to perform at tomorrow's show. He sends his apologies. Get well soon, Calvin!"

Harris - real name Adam Wiles - started by recording music demos in his bedroom as a teenager. He was named the world's highest-paid DJ this year by Forbes, after earning $66 million (around £41m) in 12 months.

The MTV EMAs are being held in Glasgow for the first time in their 20-year history. U2, Alicia Keys and Ed Sheeran are set to play at the event, to be hosted by US rapper Nicki Minaj.

Tourism chiefs say the global exposure could be worth up to £10 m to the Scottish economy.
