HEARTS owner Vladimir Romanov has reportedly suffered a stroke.

Mr Romanov is said to have fallen ill while in Moscow in his native Russia and to have been taken to hospital.

The businessman told local journalists he had spent time in a Moscow hospital but did not specify where. He said he had since been discharged.

Allegations of embezzlement and fraud are currently being investigated following the collapse of Ukio Bankas, which is majority-owned by Mr Romanov.

Doctors have sent a medical certificate regarding his condition to the Lithuanian Financial Crime Investigation Service.

However, prosecutors have called for Mr Romanov to offer up more evidence following claims he suffered a stroke.

Prosecutor Simon Minkevicius raised question marks over the certificate.

He said: "The certificate is missing some required particulars. In part, it does not meet the requirements.

"Mr Romanov has promised to send a further medical document, then we will deal with the next steps."
