Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) tried to rid North Uist and other Western islands of hedgehogs in 2003 as they posed a threat to rare breeding wader birds, whose eggs they eat.
However, a report put to the environmental group last week revealed the creatures were making a comeback, with at least 20 found living on the southern part of the island.
