Historic drinks firm collapses

Scotland’s oldest surviving wine merchants, whose customers once included Sir Walter Scott and Charles Dickens, has been put into administration.

Cockburns of Leith, which has a 214-year history in Edinburgh, has called in Ernst and Young to run the firm.

The wine-importing business was founded by Robert Cockburn in 1796.
