Bagpipers from the Canadian police will make history this month by being the first ever non-military pipe band to perform at the Changing of the Guard ceremony.

The Vancouver Police Pipe Band is crowning its centennial year by travelling to England where it will accompany members of the Household Division, British soldiers who guard the Queen, during ceremonies at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.

Pipe Sergeant Bob Murphie said being the first non-military pipe band to play in the 350-year history of the Changing of the Guard was a special honour. He said: "To go to Buckingham Palace to play for our head of state in the Changing of the Queen's Guard is an immeasurable honour in our centennial year celebration."
