Hotel of mum and dad

MORE than 1.6 million people in the UK between the ages of 20 and 40 still live with their parents because they can't afford to rent or buy their own home, a report has revealed.

The survey, compiled by YouGov for housing charity Shelter, also found nearly half of parents don't believe their children will be able to get on the housing ladder even if they work hard and save.

Two-thirds of those living at home also found it had an impact on them living an independent life, with almost half of parents agreeing with this.

Campbell Robb, chief executive of Shelter, said the figures were reflective of the current housing crisis and "chronic" lack of homes in the UK.

He called on the Government to look into making housing more affordable as "rents soar and deposits become even further out of reach".
