Housing group backs cuts U-turn

The Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) has welcomed the Scottish Government's decision to reverse spending cuts for housing adaptations.

The budget, which supports housing providers to adapt homes for older or vulnerable tenants, was cut for 2010/11 from £10m to £8m on the eve of the Scottish Parliament elections.

The fund was also to be restricted so that housing associations had to find the first £1000 of the cost of any adaptations. Previously Government had met any cost above £150. This has also now been reversed in the Government's spring budget revision, which found another £2m for adaptations.
