SOME of Scotland's leading legal, political and sporting figures will attend the funeral of Paul McBride, QC, in Glasgow today, following his sudden death in Pakistan.

The Lord Advocate Frank Mulholland and Solicitor General Lesley Thomson will attend a requiem Mass at St Aloysius' Church, Garnethill, alongside Celtic manager Neil Lennon and some of his players, who yesterday wore black armbands in their cup match against Dundee United as a mark of respect.

Lennon, who said he had been left devastated by Mr McBride's death, will be one of the pall bearers at the funeral.

First Minister Alex Salmond will also be among the hundreds of mourners expected to attend the service, which will be followed by a private burial.

Many other figures from Scotland's legal fraternity will also pay their respects. A spokesman for the Scottish Court Service said arrangements would be put in place to accommodate those planning to attend.

It is believed many cases will be delayed until after the 10am funeral. However, the trial of Neil McKenzie and Trevor Muirhead, who are accused of conspiring to murder the late QC, as well as Lennon and former MSP Trish Godman, is scheduled to go ahead as normal.

Mr McBride, 47, was found dead in his hotel room by fellow lawyer and close friend Aamer Anwar on Sunday, March 4.

His body was flown home to Glasgow on Saturday after a post-mortem examination found there were no suspicious circumstances.
