A concert at the SSE Hydro is due to go-ahead an hour later than scheduled following a gas leak at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre.

The BBC Concert Orchestra was due perform Danny Elfman's Music from the films of Tim Burton at the SSE Hydro at 7.30pm tonight.

However, following a gas leak at the SECC, the show has been delayed and will now begin at 8.30pm.

Composer Elfman is famous for writing The Simpsons theme tune and scores for films including Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Mission Impossible, Man in Black, Spiderman, Silver Linings Playbook and Tim Burton's Batman movies.

A spokesperson for SECC said: "Following the gas leak which occurred on the site of the SECC this morning, we can confirm that the buildings on site including The SSE Hydro, SECC and Clyde Auditorium have been checked by the relevant authorities and are now safe to be occupied.

"Consequently, tonight's show at The SSE Hydro, Danny Elfman's Music From The Films Of Tim Burton will still go ahead and now expected to start at revised time of 8.30pm."

According to organisers, the revised finish time for the concert is now 10.35pm. The last train eastbound from the venue's nearest station, Exhibition Centre, is at 11.41pm. Westbound from the station, the last train is 11.31pm.

The Hydro along with the Clyde auditorium and SECC had to be evacuated at 11.45am today after a gas main was damaged by contractors.

Engineers have "identified and attended to" the leak at the SECC. No-one was injured.

Some surrounding roads have been closed and police are in attendance.

The Hydro is Scotland's newest music venue and opened only last week with a sold-out concert by Rod Stewart.

Operators said it will host around 140 events a year with Gary Barlow, Justin Timberlake and premier league darts set to be held in the 13,000-capacity arena in the next 12 months.

Construction of the Hydro was hit in June when a fire broke out in the roof but despite concerns at the time, the damage was not serious and the venue opened on schedule.
