In pictures: lighting test on The Kelpies, Falkirk
A lighting test was last night carried out on the Kelpies in Falkirk ahead of their official opening to the public later this month.
Designed by sculptor Andy Scott, each of The Kelpies stands up to 30 metres tall and each one weighs over 300 tonnes.
They are constructed of structural steel with a stainless steel outer skin, paying homage to the tradition of working horses of Scotland which used to pull barges along Scotland's canals.
They stand at the entrance to the North Sea at the Forth and Clyde canal in The Helix, a new parkland project built to connect 16 communities in the Falkirk Council Area.
The sculptures will open to the public this spring ahead of the opening of a visitor centre in the summer.
