38 school pupils from across central Scotland will perform side-by-side with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall (RSNO) over two concerts on Thursday opening the Orchestra’s presentations for secondary schools, Maestro Music.

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra invited over 70 secondary school pupils from across Scotland to perform onstage, as part of the Orchestra’s concerts tailored for S4 to S6 pupils. The four concerts: Usher Hall, Edinburgh (Tuesday 30 October), Caird Hall, Dundee (Wednesday 31 October), and two at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall (Thursday 1 November).

In each city the Orchestra, together with the school pupils, will open the concerts with Ravel’s Boléro. The hour-long presentation goes on to explore three other works in the orchestral repertoire: the fourth movement of Prokofiev’s Symphony No1, Scottish composer James MacMillan’s Britannia and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

Presenter for the concerts is Paul Rissmann, who has been described as being “the Jamie Oliver” of concert presentation. Over the past months the pupils attending have familiarised themselves with the works being performed, with the help of online resources provided by the RSNO, including five videos prepared by members of the Orchestra.
