This is the most exciting night in British politics in my adult life...and I started in journalism in 1979.

The stakes could not be higher.  Will Scotland chose to remain in the United Kingdom, a country that once had a Empire that covered a quarter of the globe?  Or will we seek a new destiny a small independent country within Europe?

This has been a marvellous campaign, hard fought but peaceful. It is a tribute to the maturity of both sides that it has been conducted without the anti-English sentiment.

The Scottish people have been engaged with politics in a way that is simply unprecedented. 97% of us are registered to vote - over 4.2 million people. The pollsters have been confounded, the politicians stunned and journalists lost for words to explain how a unionist opinion poll lead of 22 points could evaporate in less than a month.

Whatever the result on Friday, Scotland and the United Kingdom has been transformed by this debate. The political and financial establishment has been shaken as the people of Scotland showed that they could not be taken for granted.

The leaders of the UK parties were moved to issue a last-minute solemn "vow" that Scotland would get substantial new powers, that the Barnett Formula would remain, that health spending would not be cut.

Voters do not know what to make of these promises, and many have heard politicians deliver pledges before that haven't been honoured. Nevertheless, it has been an extraordinary spectacle and no one knows how Scots have reacted to it.

All we do know is that this referendum is too close to call. The longest campaign in Scottish political history will finally be over in the small hours of Friday morning.

And with this special forum you have an opportunity to be part of history - a participant in shaping the new Scotland.

Tell me your highlights of the campaign so far and pick out the moments that are seminal as the night progresses. Post your comments in the box below, using normal rules, and I'll monitor the thread and respond regularly.

Together, we'll get through what could be a long night...
