Nearly two dozen artists have received awards from one of the longest running public exhibitions in Scotland.

The artists have been honoured by the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts (RGI), whose annual show runs from Sunday to October 6.

The exhibition, at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow, contains 370 works.

This year seven of the annual awards at the show are going to Glasgow-based artists, five to Edinburgh-based artists, and several from Ayrshire and Renfrewshire, among them, Michael Durning who is President of Paisley Art Institute.

Prizewinners Anne McGroarty from Johnstone and Tom Mabon from the Black Isle, Cromarty, have won awards for their first submissions to the show.

Hazel Nagl, convener of the RGI, said: "Once again the RGI squeezes itself into the Mitchell library and overflows into the RGI Kelly Gallery.

"Our RGI hangers I know have achieved a balance between maturity and younger talent, yet all is contemporary.

"There is much to choose from; painting, sculpture, prints and drawings."

Karin Currie, president of the RGI, added: "For my part I think it's quite magical seeing the exhibition finally assembled out of the welter of submissions we receive."
