Internet blamed as Chambers hit by death of the dictionary

The death of the printed dictionary has signalled the end of a Scottish publishing institution after the company that produces Chambers reference books announced plans to close its only office north of the border.

The proposal by Chambers Harrap Publishers will affect all 27 staff at the office in Edinburgh, the historic home of the company that was established by William and Robert Chambers in 1819 and published its first dictionary in 1867.
