Ewan Barras, 46, was reported missing on Wednesday when he left his home in the Milton of Leys area at 6.30am.
An RAF helicopter and police search dogs made searches near his home.
Northern Constabulary said Barras later made contact with a relative and was traced to the Edinburgh area.
Meanwhile, Glasgow police are searching for young Maryhill man who has been missing for a week. They have spoken to 500 people and stopped the drivers of 150 vehicles.
Officers focused on the last known locations of Ross Ramsay, 30, on the night of February 14. He had spent the evening drinking alone at the Ben Nevis pub on Argyle Street, where he was a regular customer. He was then seen leaving the Gala Casino on Sauchiehall Street just after midnight after handing his wallet and phone to reception staff.
Ross's mother Sandra, 56, made a desperate plea for information: "We are terribly worried about him and desperate to find out if he's okay and safe. To anyone with any information, we urge you to contact the police. Ross, we love you very much and miss you dearly."
Ross requires daily medication for depression and anxiety but did not have it with him. Police consider him to be vulnerable. He is slim, 6ft and has auburn, shoulder-length, straight hair. He was wearing a grey bomber-style jacket with black lining and hood, light blue bleached jeans ripped at the bottom, and grey hi-top trainers.
His disappearance has been described as "completely out of character". Anyone with information should contact Maryhill police station on 0141 532 3700.
