Island's future in residents' hands

Residents of a tiny island made famous by poet Norman MacCaig will next week choose whether or not to take charge of their homeland.

The laird of Scalpay, in the Outer Hebrides, has offered the island as a free gift to its 320 inhabitants.

The community has seven days to decide whether to hold a public vote on the matter or risk it being taken over by another organisation.
