The King of Pop came on a house-hunting visit to Scotland in 1997, and is believed to have considered buying Skibo Castle in Caithness and Amhuinnsuidhe Castle on Harris.
Michael's brother, Jermaine, who is currently touring with the rest of the Jackson Five, said he did not know why a move never happened.
In 1997, Michael and his entourage chartered a luxury double-decker coach to take them around Scotland, where they spent two days touring estates and castles valued between £350,000 and £3 million.
Jermaine said: "Scotland held a place in Michael's heart – a bit like Cork in Ireland, he loved that place too.
"He just loved castles and when he saw these beautiful places he just had to go there."
