FANCY the chance to taste 100 scones or almost 140 cakes in the one day?

That is exactly what the judges at the Scottish Baker of the Year award got to do as they sampled the delights of 170 expert bakers all vying for the 2015 title.

More than 600 bakery products including scones, loaves, rolls and individual cakes and biscuits were sampled in Dunfermline on Tuesday as part of the competition.

Bestselling Scottish writer and self-confessed scone fan Sara Sheridan was on hand to help with the judging.

She said: "I travel all the time, mostly to attend book festivals and everywhere I go, I take myself off to sample the local scones. Scones are my favourite - you can keep your cake!

"I was really impressed today and have had a great time testing over 100 scones - what a brilliant way to spend an afternoon."

Customers who voted for their favourite bakers to take part in the competition were also given the chance to join the official judges tasting the baked delights and Suzanne Fernando, from Ardossan, was one of the lucky ones chosen to do it.

She said: "This is a real honour and I have had a great time tasting nearly 140 cakes and sweet treats. I know but there are so many worthy entries here today."

TV judge and celebrity cake designer, Mich Turner MBE, will present the awards in May, with accolades being handed out for best craft baker, best retail baker and best wholesale baker.
