SPECTATOR numbers topped 8500 over five days as the 2013 UCI Juniors Track World Championships drew to a close at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow.

The event saw more than 250 riders compete including global cycling superpowers Australia, Germany, Belgium, France, Russia and Britain. Almost 40,000 people from 104 countries watched live streaming of the championships online.

Meanwhile, official merchandise supplier Santini was left scrambling when its entire UK stock of replica world-champion rainbow jerseys sold out at the venue on Friday and it had to source more from Italy.

It was a successful few days for Britain as 17-year-old Dannielle Khan cemented her status as a rising star of track cycling by becoming a double world junior champion in the sprint and 500m time trial.

The British women's team pursuit squad of Amy Hill, Hayley Jones, Emily Kay and Emily Nelson also struck gold on Thursday evening.

Next week will see Emirates Arena again the focus of attention as the 2013 World Youth Netball Championships get under way on Thursday, August 22.
