DONALD Trump has praised a Scottish community choir that sang for him at a special event in New York.

The Lanark & Carluke Choral Union performed at an international concert held at Carnegie Hall to celebrate Martin Luther King Jnr day.

The 34-strong choir, which was was formed in 1972, performed a rendition of Karl Jenkins 'The Peacemakers at the event.

But Mr Trump was so impressed that he invited them along to Trump Towers to sing for him.

The tycoon said: "They have magnificent voices. Carnegie Hall loved them, the people of New York loved them and I loved them. They are wonderful people."

Shena Fox, of the choir, said: "Mr Trump has a great love for Scotland and the choir sang three Robert Burns songs while he patiently sat and listened.

"Mr Trump was very complimentary about Scotland especially the Ayrshire and Aberdeen areas.

"He was very charming and was genuinely interested to hear of the Lanark choirs success in being invited to sing in the great Carnegie Hall.

"Mr Trump then treated us all to lunch, all 34 of us.

"We hope continue the links especially when he comes to Turnberry."
